Drones and digital panels as well as freshly designed costumes and choreography have been introduced at Cirque du Soleil's "Michael Jackson One" at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Featuring a startling hologram of the late pop star, the production has a soundtrack that includes "Billie Jean," "Thriller," "Beat It" and "Smooth Criminal." Vibrant dancing and invigorating video interpret the chart-topping songs for new generations.
The drones -- 64 of them -- are a first for a Cirque production in Las Vegas. They fly over the audience during the show, creating different formations to enhance the storytelling. The digital panels add visual effects and allow every seat in the venue to have a better view, creating an even more immersive guest experience.
"These new upgrades allow us to expand upon our storytelling," said Mike Newquist, president of the resident and affiliate shows divisions at Cirque du Soleil. "We're always seeking ways to keep the show fresh and exciting for our audiences, making sure each performance leaves a lasting, profound impression."
"Michael Jackson One" opened in 2013 and recently extended its contract at Mandalay Bay through 2030. It has had more than 4,500 shows with more than 5.5 million guests. It is one of five remaining Cirque-branded productions in Las Vegas (in addition to the Cirque-owned "Blue Man Group").
Showtimes are 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Thursdays to Mondays. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit Cirque du Soleil online.
