The U.S. Tour Operators Association on Friday said it would continue DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) efforts. That message comes after President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Jan. 20 that terminates DEI policies in the federal government and orders federal agencies to crack down on what he called "illegal" DEI policies.
"The USTOA executive committee, board of directors, and you, our members, remain steadfast in our support of efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion industrywide," the USTOA message says.
USTOA CEO Terry Dale said he believes DEI strengthens the travel industry, and that the USTOA "felt it was appropriate to reaffirm that in light of what's going on today."
The USTOA in 2023 hired a social impact manager to oversee its sustainability and DEI initiatives. The organization has also hosted webinars on DEI training for members.
He called DEI efforts "crucial to a broader, greater understanding between cultures and people."
