Avianca will add five Florida routes in 2025, including its first flights to Tampa.
The Colombia-based airline didn't offer specifics on launch dates or frequencies on Friday, but said that it would begin Bogotá-Tampa service next year. The carrier also plans to launch flights to Fort Lauderdale from Managua, Nicaragua and from Medellin, Colombia. In Miami, Avianca will add service from Guatemala City and San Jose, Costa Rica.
Avianca currently serves Miami from seven destinations on a year-round or seasonal basis, Cirium schedule data shows. It flies to Fort Lauderdale from Bogotá.
On the Bogotá-Tampa route, Avianca will be the lone carrier. The Star Alliance member will compete against American on the Miami-Guatemala City and Miami-San Jose routes.
On the new Fort Lauderdale routes, Avianca will try to take advantage of market exits by Spirit, which is scheduled to discontinue Fort Lauderdale-Managua in March and Fort Lauderdale-Medellin in June.
The carrier will compete against JetBlue on the Medellin route but will have no direct competition on Fort Lauderdale-Managua.
