NEW YORK -- The Spanish Tourism Institute (Turespaña) awarded Travel Weekly the Tourism Sustainability media award, recognizing the publication for its coverage of Spain as a destination committed to sustainability.

The award was given during a ceremony that also gave HE Travel, an LGBTQ+ travel specialist, the Best Sustainable Tourism Project Award.

The awards were part of Turespaña's "Spain Talks: Caring for the Future" event held on Sept. 27, with the goal of promoting more responsible tourism.

Tourism and sustainability experts from Spain and the U.S. discussed sustainable and responsible tourism efforts and how tourism providers can more positively impact the communities where they operate.

Held as part of the activities organized around Climate Week, panelists included Guy Young, chief engagement officer at The Travel Corporation;  Diana Ditto, senior director of product marketing at Collette; Nancy Mammana, interim CEO at NYC Tourism & Conventions; Christian Wolters, general manager of marketing for North America at Intrepid Travel; Teresa Parejo, director of sustainability at Iberia; Prisca Sánchez, vice president of global marketing at Global Citizen; and Erika Harms, global sustainability director at Iberostar Group.
