Travelers staying in an Airbnb or other vacation rental are also booking day passes to some of Hawaii's biggest resort hotels, including the Kahala Hotel & Resort, Fairmont Orchid, Grand Wailea, Prince Waikiki and the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa.
That's the trend ResortPass is reporting. Twenty-five percent of all travelers use the app to find resorts that will complement their vacation rental stay.
"Airbnb properties offer great value, especially when traveling with a larger group, but one downside is that they may lack amenities like pools, spas and fitness centers and the hospitality that comes with a luxury resort," said Michael Wolf, CEO of ResortPass.
"ResortPass supplements a home rental by granting access to amenities and services via a day-guest pass, available at over 1,700 hotels and resorts such as Four Seasons, the Edition and Hilton properties."
Hawaii is one of ResortPass' second most popular destinations, just behind Miami. Wolf said these passes are also used as a "solution for awkward in-between times" when the traveler needs a place to go or to store their luggage before check-in or after checkout.
Hotel and resort offerings vary on ResortPass. Some may offer a room for the day, cabana, fitness center or pool access. Travel advisors are able to earn commission on ResortPass bookings through the ResortPass affiliate program.
Correction: According to ResortPass, 25% of all travelers, not just the company's customers, use the app to find a resort to complement their vacation rental stay.
