Kathryn Bigelow Wins Best Director
Kathryn Bigelow, the director of “The Hurt Locker,” is the first woman to win an Oscar for best director. Only four women have been nominated in the category; Linda Wertmüller, “Seven Beauties,” 1976; Jane Campion, “The Piano,” 1993; Sofia Coppola, “Lost In Translation,” 2003.
‘The Hurt Locker’ defeated nine other films, including the 3-D blockbuster, “Avatar.”
The Hurt Locker also won in the categories of Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and Film Editing.
Sandra Bullock was named best actress for “The Blind Side,”
Jeff Bridges took the prize for best actor for “Crazy Heart.”
Mo'Nique won best supporting actress for “Precious” and
Christoph Waltz won best supporting actor for “Inglourious Basterds.”
