Royal Caribbean Group has inked a deal for a sixth Edge-class ship for its premium line, Celebrity Cruises.
The ship is scheduled for delivery in 2028 from the Chantiers de l'Atlantique yard in France. The vessel will be a sister of the Celebrity Xcel, which will debut in November. Like the Xcel, the sixth Edge-class ship will have the capability to run on methanol.
The agreement to build the sixth Edge ship is contingent upon customary conditions, including financing.
Celebrity says the Xcel will have seven new experiences that aren't on earlier ships in the Edge class. The line has not revealed those experiences, but it is enlisting the help of cruisers to help choose what culinary and entertainment directions the line should take.
The sixth Edge-class ship is slated to begin sailing a decade after the first ship in the series debuted in 2018.
